Join the Crew – Make a Difference on the Water
“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” – Rabindranath Tagore
At Sailability Rushcutters Bay (SRB), our volunteers are the heart of every sail. From helping sailors into the boats to hoisting sails, skippering, or sharing a laugh on the dock, every role makes a splash.
You don’t need sailing experience to join – just a love of people, a positive spirit, and a willingness to lend a hand. Our experienced skippers and crew will show you the ropes (literally!), and before long, you’ll feel right at home on the water.

Why Volunteer with SRB?
Sailability Rushcutters Bay is powered by a passionate team of volunteers who bring energy, care, and commitment to every sailing day.
We welcome experienced skippers and competent crew to volunteer on a regular or substitute basis, as well as those keen to learn or support from shore. Volunteers help greet participants, assist with sign-in and life jackets, support sailing activities, and pack up at the end of the day. Every role plays a part in creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful experience on the water.
No sailing experience is required. Land-based volunteers are always needed, with opportunities in marketing, event and fun-day coordination, shed clean-ups, community outreach, boat maintenance, and volunteer recruitment.
Volunteering with SRB is deeply rewarding. You’ll enjoy time on Sydney Harbour, meet inspiring people, build new skills, and help people of all abilities experience freedom on the water.
Thank you to all our volunteers!
Our volunteers are the heart of SRB, we couldn’t set sail without you!

Working With Children Check – How to Apply
Because we work closely with our sailors and community groups, all SRB volunteers must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC). This helps us keep our program safe, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone.
💡 Good news – it’s free for volunteers and only takes a few minutes to complete!
Here’s how to get yours:
- Go online to the Working With Children Check NSW website: Working With Children Check NSW
- Complete the form and you’ll receive an Application Number.
- Visit your nearest Service NSW Centre with your Application Number and ID — either your current passport or original birth certificate, plus two other forms of ID (like your driver’s licence or a utility bill).
- Your WWCC Number will be sent to you within a few days.
- Email your number to membership@sailabilityrushcuttersbay.org so we can verify it.
