Join the Crew – Make a Difference on the Water
“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” – Rabindranath Tagore
At Sailability Rushcutters Bay (SRB), our volunteers are the heart of every sail. From helping sailors into the boats to hoisting sails, skippering, or sharing a laugh on the dock, every role makes a splash.
You don’t need sailing experience to join – just a love of people, a positive spirit, and a willingness to lend a hand. Our experienced skippers and crew will show you the ropes (literally!), and before long, you’ll feel right at home on the water.

Why Volunteer with SRB?
We are powered by an incredible team of volunteers who bring heart, energy and commitment to every sailing day. So many of our volunteers show up simply because they love being part of it – even when they’re not rostered on.
On a typical sailing day, we welcome participants, help everyone sign in and fit life jackets, operate the radio, and work together to pack everything away once the sails come down. Every role, big or small, helps create a safe, joyful day on the water.
You don’t need to be a sailor to volunteer – land-based helpers are always warmly welcomed. We need support with marketing, photography, shed clean-ups, connecting with new community groups, organising fund days and recruiting new volunteers. There’s truly a place for everyone.
Volunteering with Sailability Rushcutters Bay is deeply rewarding. There’s nothing quite like spending time by the water, surrounded by laughter, teamwork and purpose. You’ll meet a diverse and inspiring community, and if you’d like to try sailing, we’re always happy to take you out or even train you. Either way, you’ll become part of the truly amazing SRB community.
Thank you to all our volunteers!
Our volunteers are the heart of Sailability Rushcutters Bay, we couldn’t set sail without you!

Working With Children Check – How to Apply
Because we work closely with our sailors and community groups, all SRB volunteers must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC). This helps us keep our program safe, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone.
💡 Good news – it’s free for volunteers and only takes a few minutes to complete!

- Your WWCC Number will be sent to you within a few days.
- Email your number to membership@sailabilityrushcuttersbay.org so we can verify it.
